Smoky sky & still not much hope for rain

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Sometimes that extra day away from work makes all the difference. Aside from the fact we need rain, we have some very beautiful weather coming up for Kansas. Most of you will have 70s today and again tomorrow (Wednesday) and almost ALL of the humidity is gone for now.

Did you notice the haze and smoke in the air?
So many wildfires are burning in western Montana and Idaho, and because of the way the jet stream is oriented right now, that smoke is being carried right down into Wyoming and out into the central and northern Plains. Some of you may have been smelling smoke, and that's where it's coming from. Hard to believe it travels that far.

Dangerous Irma headed for Florida:
All eyes continue to be on the major category 5 Irma that is still moving west. This is still looking to be an east coast storm and not one for the Gulf, but we still don't know exactly where it will strike. One forecast model takes it right up through all of Florida, but there will likely be some variation in the models before we really know what it will do.

Dry pattern continues for Kansas:
As we've been suggesting, the first part of September in our long range computer models has looked very dry. And there's no sign that will change. Take a look at this forecast through September 16th. Most of the state is expected to get little more than a trace of moisture. There's a good chance the majority of our rain this month (when it finally starts to show up) will be coming late in September.

Hello!!!! Washington, Oregon, and California are burning too right now so they are also contributing to the smoke and haze! Especially Oregon!
