Back to storms & active weather

Gearing up for the 4th and we are faced with thunderstorms that will be back in the area over the next several days. I know we have some that might like a little bit rain after the recent hot spell, and then there are the farmers who would probably prefer some dry weather for a couple more weeks yet. Harvest is still going on in many areas.

The tricky part of the forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday are the pop up storms. In all reality, it could dump some heavy rain in one spot, but 2 miles down the road, there may not be anything at all. The ingredients are NOT there for widespread rain/severe weather. There's very little wind in the atmosphere right now, so storms that develop will tend to collapse quickly, making damaging wind gusts quite possible around storms. We will also have some heavy downpours, so you might get drenched if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Storm chances will linger on Wednesday, both morning and some spotty rains into the afternoon too. The difference is that the chances will be focused farther east, and western Kansas won't see very much (if any) in the way of rain.

I'm not that convinced there will be storms around Kansas on the 4th, so plan for dry weather and warm temperatures. Most of us will have temperatures 80-85 when we get ready to shoot off fireworks.

Another storm chance comes this Saturday when a front dives into the area. We will update you on that as we get closer, but that might be one of our better rain chances in the coming days.

Total Solar Eclipse:

Remember the excitement surrounding our eclipse back in August of 2017. I was reporting from Beatrice, NE in the path of totality and it was a moment I'll never forget. Having a 360° sunset was just an amazing feature. Well today (Tuesday) beginning at 11:55 central time, there will be a total solar eclipse across South America. Totality begins at 1:01 and wraps up at 3:44 pm Central Time. If you want to watch it live, here is a link: https://www.timeanddate.com/live/

Have a great day!
