Picture from Chicago - official snowfall was 19.3" |
This was definitely an indoor kind of weekend with rainfall amounts (for most of the state) between .75 and 1.00" on Saturday, and then snow and wind Sunday. I can definitely say what got me out of bed Sunday was the wind rattling the windows. Gusts ended up between 45 and 50 mph but at times it sounded stronger than that.
A huge storm continues east today, impacting millions of people from the Midwest all the way to Maine. This is the same storm that produced rain in Arizona late last week, and now it continues crossing the country, producing a ton of winter weather for major metropolitan areas. Chicago had over 19 inches of snow on Sunday and it was driven by winds between 30 and 40 mph. You can see the snow forecast is calling for major accumulations in areas that were hit hard last week.

Midweek chance for light snow |
Our weather is going to warm some into Tuesday with potentially 60s returning to western Kansas. There will be a lot of 50s on the weather map in central Kansas. However, it won't last long as another cold front drops through the area on Wednesday. Not only will temperatures drop, but snow will likely drop over Kansas too. It shouldn't be enough to cause any big problems or get kids out of school, but it is something we will be looking at over the next few days.
Despite what the groundhog is forecasting (6 more weeks of winter), warmer weather will return at the end of the week. Highs are expected to top 70 once again by Saturday.
