Weekend warming trend:
It will be pretty amazing to see how warm 60 degree weather feels after single digit temperatures this past week. The turn around in the weather is due in part of a developing storm on the west coast that will begin to move toward Kansas by Sunday. It's not going to do anything for us other than crank the winds up and bring in the warmth. We really don't need any precipitation right now, so it's okay that we will be missed by the rain and snow.
Weekend wind forecasts:
Saturday afternoon - strongest will be over central and eastern Kansas with some gusts up to 25 mph
Sunday afternoon - gusts will be a bit stronger for more areas of the state. Some wind gusts might be close to 35 mph.
February Temperatures:
I think (overall) most of February will be cold for Kansas. All signals point toward much colder air surging back to the south and encompassing many different areas. Our normal high temperature will climb from the mid 40s and into the low 50s by the end of the month.
So here is a breakdown of the monthly temperatures:
Feb. 5-10
Feb. 10-15
Feb. 15-20
Last week of Feb.
Now keep in mind, this doesn't mean we can't get a few days mixed in where temperatures will be warming up, but we should be prepared for a pretty chilly month. As far as precipitation (which is always harder than forecasting the temperatures), I would expect us to transition back to active weather by the middle of the month and beyond. This dry period we are getting here at the beginning of February is not likely to last.
