Heading toward our first weekend in August and we will have some hot weather to deal with, but as most of you know, it could be so much worse.
We still need rain, as the new drought map that came out yesterday (Thursday) reveals exceptional drought in parts of northeast Kansas. It's not the area you would normally pick to have such a dramatic lack of moisture, but this has been a weird summer.
Alright, so there won't be much rain this weekend. Northwest Kansas may catch a bit of heavy rain tonight (Friday night), but most of us won't see anything at all.
Let's keep an eye on Sunday night. Models keep most of the big rain makers north in Nebraska, but some storms will develop into northwest Kansas into the evening.
Next week, the heat dome looks to slide back toward the west, which should allow for a drop in temperatures around the Plains. The drop won't be as significant as it was recently, but I think you'll notice a change. The unfortunate side of it all is that we won't get much rain out of the pattern change. And as I mentioned on the previous post, this month of August should be a very dry one around here.
