We missed the threat of severe storms Wednesday night as it all tracked south of Kansas. There were some reports of 2-3" hailstones in southwest Oklahoma, but they were few and far between and I didn't see any reports of major damage.
Another round of rain/thunder is on track to hit this weekend, but once again, we just might get lucky and dodge the threat of hail and wind. The timing should be Saturday late afternoon or evening, and once the rain moves into Kansas, it should track northeast. This most likely won't be that heavy, but we are setting expectations for about 0.25", mostly over central and eastern Kansas. Once Sunday rolls around, the rain chances should go east of our area.
Severe chance next week:
This is something we will have to be on the lookout for during our second full week of April.
Wednesday will have a fairly strong low pressure pushing through the Plains, and if the timing continues to be late afternoon/evening, we could have a hail and wind potential setting up for parts of Kansas. Be sure to check back for updates.
Could we see an April cold snap??
It's looking more and more likely (now cue "ugh" .. "boo"... "dislike", etc.) After a winter that felt like it would never end, I'm sure this is the last thing you want to hear from me. But... nobody can change it and a cold snap in April will look and feel VERY different than one in January or February.
A strong front may slide through late next week (around April 11/12) and drop temperatures back below normal. And if the weather pattern sets up like what is pictured below, we are going to be in for more rainy setups AND cool weather.
