Big rains midweek:
This isn't going to be in Kansas, but look just south of us midweek. Oklahoma had some decent rains a few weeks ago, and now look to be in the cross-hairs for this next round Wednesday night/Thursday. Even if we could get half of that in Kansas, it would sure be beneficial. The growing season has ended, but we still need that moisture heading into winter. A good .50" rain can go far this time of year.
Two cold blasts to watch:
First one hits Wednesday night/Thursday and it will be quite chilly. I would be expecting mostly teens and low 20s for wind chills early Thursday. You can see the map above showing much of Kansas with feels like temperatures in the teens at 7 a.m. Afternoon temperatures will be nearly 20° colder than normal, but that's been a common occurrence lately.
Sunday:
This is the second big blast coming south from Canada. This one will be a little colder than the one we get on Thursday. Once again, we will have winds howling from the north and temperatures steady or falling as we go throughout the day. What's pretty common with all of these cold blasts - THEY ARE DRY! Upper level winds coming from the northwest have dominated our weather pattern for the last 3 weeks and the end result in Kansas is almost no appreciable precipitation. We did have some of that snow out west last week, but there wasn't very much moisture content to it.
The pattern wants to change, but how much longer will it take? We will discuss as the week continues.
