Storms moving out; big cooldown; and awesome cloud pictures

Fall weather has finally returned to Kansas as a cold front continues to slip south and east. The chances for storms will be headed east as well and if you haven't had enough rain OR any rain at all... well, you are just about out of luck. Some of us are not in the right spot to get the moisture. I'll credit the National Weather Service in Wichita with this image, but you can see how the heavier September rains basically danced around south central Kansas. That's the way it goes sometimes and it makes our job interesting/frustrating. (click on any image to make it larger)
September rainfall around the area
The severe weather threat will shift east Thursday afternoon.

Severe threat moving east
Our biggest concern will be strong northwest winds over the next few days and then maybe some frost Saturday morning. Yes! It's getting to be that time of year and if you suffer with allergies, you probably can't wait for that first hard freeze. We won't see it get that chilly, but temperatures falling into the 30s Saturday morning seems very likely.
Weather pattern shifts to northwest winds aloft
The weather pattern is going to shift on us heading into the weekend and for the start of next week. Dry, northwest winds aloft will continue, so it's highly unlikely that any significant moisture will be coming our way until MAYBE the end of next week.

The clouds were putting on quite a show Wednesday evening. Lots of giant thunderheads (cumulonimbus clouds) developing around the state. And when it happens around sunset, you get some dramatic views. We appreciate all of the pictures that come in. Thanks!
