Rain is coming & warmer next week

We actually have some rain coming to Kansas with no chance for ice, sleet, or snow. That's amazing in the month of December, but the weather has definitely warmed up from our big November chill. And it will be at least another week (and maybe even longer) before any big shots of cold air return to the central Plains.

Forecast rain amounts through Friday afternoon
Our computer models continue to forecast some decent rainfall amounts around the state. I wouldn't expect anyone to get an inch of rain Thursday night or Friday morning, but I do think some .50" to .75" seem reasonable given the setup and the duration of the showers. We will be grateful for anything we get.
Much warmer weather likely during the second half of the week (week of Dec. 8)
Next week may start out with near normal temperatures, but it won't take long for warm air to overspread a large area of the central and northern Plains. Afternoon highs in the 60s seem quite possible by Wednesday and beyond. Places (like Rapid City, SD) that average high temperatures in the mid 30s could also see some 60 degree weather next week. The other shoe will likely drop at some point, and that's what we will be trying to figure out next week. But for now, what's coming our way looks like jacket weather and no need for snow shovels. December weather is on hold for awhile.
