Stormy east and west - how long will it be mild?

Power lines down in Sausalito, CA
Pockets of VERY heavy rains up and down the west coast
Welcome to a new week and more mild weather coming our way. All of the stormy weather is either east or west on the coasts, but through the middle of the country, the weather continues to be very quiet. Some areas in California have picked up over 10 inches of rain, and there's still more rain to come today. It's all part of the "pineapple express" that I talked about on the blog Friday. Round after round of moisture continues to slam the west coast, and the heavy rains extend all the way up through Seattle.

Unfortunately, the wet weather on the west coast will not make it to Kansas. Those storm systems will wash out long before they make it to the Plains. We will see a change in temperatures by the middle of the week. The widespread warmth (even record setting) will gradually get shoved back to the west and our afternoon temperatures will fall into the 40s. Keep in mind, normal highs this time of the year are 46/47 degrees, and we will be back closer to average soon.

More changes in the weather pattern will be showing up in the 3rd week of February, which will likely result in colder temperatures around the region. It's unclear if we will get moisture at that time too, but we will keep a close watch on the changes that will take place in about 7 or 8 days.
