Fridays winter yuck!

We haven't seen too many changes in the setup for Friday. It still looks mighty cold for April and we are likely to set records before the temperatures begin to climb over the weekend.

Updated timing on rain/snow:
Friday morning should start dry, so no issues getting to work or school. Skies will be cloudy and temperatures will be going down.

Friday afternoon: we will be watching what comes up from Oklahoma and down out of Nebraska. That's where the moisture will be showing up first. The snow should slide into northern Kansas by early afternoon and the rain showers should develop by 2 or 3 p.m.

Wind Chills: Friday afternoon, they will be down in the teens and 20s! And that's in the middle of the day. This is crazy stuff.

By Friday night, the chances for snow will end quickly, but the very cold temperatures will continue into Saturday morning.

Record lows are likely Saturday morning with most of the state falling into the teens.

The good news is that this should be the last cold blast for the season. Most of the longer range outlooks are showing more springlike trends moving forward.

Is my question not as important to you as it is to me and probably others also?Do we need to cover our flower beds, roses, lilacs?

I'm just now seeing your question. Yes, you should cover them if you can. And next time, simply asking the question again would suffice.

Seems like all the forecasters, not only you, always have rain chances on the horizon from 5-10 days out but when it gets closer the chances go away. The false hope gets awfully frustrating. Are there any real signs that might point to a relief in this drought anytime soon?

You are right... we have seen some signs of possible rain chances only to take them out as time gets closer. It's really frustrating for all of us, especially those with agricultural interests. The pattern doesn't look very helpful anytime soon. Other than some occasional, spotty rains, I wouldn't expect the drought to go away. The pattern is pretty well set and Kansas isn't in the right spot this year.
