Storm Update: How much snow and when?

We have seen quite a change in the computer models over the last 24-36 hours and it will bring mixed feelings. Earlier this week, we didn't think the storm would turn out to be much, but with a slight change in temperatures, we now find ourselves looking at good chances for winter weather (and a good chance of getting snow)

Friday Morning (after 8/9 am):
I expect temperatures to be warm enough that precipitation will be rain or just occasional showers that begin to spread up from the south and expand as it does so.

Into Friday afternoon:

Rain chances will gradually spread farther north and many areas will have light rain showers. The heaviest rains will likely be in southern Kansas (where .25-.50" amounts look likely).

Friday evening (after dark): This is when the rain/snow line should start moving east. The faster it changes to snow, the more you're likely to get. And this will be a heavy, wet snow with high moisture content (good for making snowballs 😁) This is a very tricky forecast though because the temperatures are just barely cold enough to get snow. But once it changes over, it could pile up fairly quickly.

This is just after midnight into Saturday morning: most areas getting snow

Saturday mid-morning: snow tapers off from west to east

Snowfall amounts: Look heaviest over central and western Kansas. It is possible that more than 8 inches could fall in some areas, but as I mentioned earlier, we will have to watch the changeover time to help dictate the possible amounts.
