Enough Winter... And It Hasn't Started

We've had an active week of winter weather here in Kansas and well, we are still technically in the fall season. Winter starts this week on December 22nd at 12:08 a.m. local time.

The snow storm turned out to be a big event for the same areas that were hit pretty hard by the ice storm earlier in the week. This map is the same one we've been showing on the air and you can't miss the 12" bulls eye that occurred in central Kansas. We don't realize how much we take electricity for granted until we don't have it for a week.... not that I lost power or anything, but my family in southern Ellsworth county was still without power at last check.
How is your holiday shopping going? I've cut back on the number of people to buy for this year, so I'm just about finished. I have to say, online shopping is very nice and it is very convenient.
Thanks to everyone who is helping clean up after the ice storm and restore power. It is amazing how Kansans come together after a big storm to help out. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Just wait until that nephew gets older. I think I get my niece as much as everyone else combined.
You've been pretty busy this past week. I think it's your turn to take a little time off now.

The christmas cards have been mailed out for over a week and the Christmas shopping has been completed YEAAAA!!! I plan to just make desserts for work I think, everybody loves FOOD!!!!

I am not a huge fan of the snow, but I am definately thankful that we didn't receive as much here in Wichita as other areas of Kansas, such as Hays. I do wish I would have had time this weekend to go take pictures of this beautiful snowfall. The family did make time to go look at some of the holiday light displays around town and I did capture some really neat photos that way with the snow and lights. I'll send some of those to you Ross.

We have much to be thankful for this holiday season, such as electricity, that many of our fellow Kansans were lacking during this cold spell. I hope they are able to restore it soon!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Hey Ross
You are probably off for a bit now after that long week of winter weather broadcasting! I just want to thank you and the KWCH team for the wonderful reporting that was done last week. Thanks to your great coverage, many people were able to stay safer and more informed! As usual, you guys did the best reporting of all the other stations. So thanks again!

Here in south Salina we lost power at 3am Tuesday morning and didn't get it back until 3pm on Sunday. It is SO good to be home and warm again! Things are getting back to normal finally, and it may be a good Christmas after all.
