Early season snow - early taste of winter

Winter arrives VERY early even for some in the mountains. Look at the snow pictures from Montana. It's not unheard of to have snow in September, but it usually falls at higher elevations. Cut Bank, MT sits at 3700 feet and they had snow Wednesday. Some roads had to be closed, but don't worry, this has no bearing on what the upcoming winter is going to be like. We will discuss that in a little more detail next week.

The same storm system that dumped snow in Montana is headed for Kansas. We could see snow in Nebraska Friday morning, but it won't last very long. Temperatures are definitely trending MUCH cooler. As we've been advertising through the week, Friday looks to be the coolest day with highs in the low 50s west and near 60 around Wichita. We probably won't see much sunshine today, and rain starts in eastern Colorado and western Kansas tonight. It will spread east Friday.

Rainfall amounts will be heaviest across the west with some areas getting between .50-1". Some areas still need a good soaking. The amounts will be .25" or less over south central Kansas. If this were November or December, this could be an accumulating snow event, but rest assured, it will at least be warm enough that snow is not a possibility in Kansas.

The weekend looks warmer and brighter. Both Saturday and Sunday should turn out to be nice days.

Millie and I will be back up at the state fair today. We sure enjoy these cooler, autumn-like days. Can you see some of the leaves starting to change?
