Another Busy Weekend

This is another busy weekend with severe weather. We will probably see some rather intense storms on Sunday with hail, strong winds, and locally heavy rainfall the main concerns. Most of eastern Kansas is under a flash flood watch through Monday, so be expecting some heavy amounts of rain Sunday night.

I spent part of the week in Colorado Springs. It was a short trip into the mountains, but a fun adventure nonetheless. The clouds forming on Pikes Peak were truly amazing to watch. The moisture gets forced up the mountain, cools and condenses, and then you have a cloud. They move much faster when you see them up close, and being the weather geek that I am, I found it quite fascinating so I had to take a picture. If I remember correctly, the temperature was 28 degrees at the top of the mountain and I was in a short sleeve shirt. Okay, so even the weatherman does some dumb things from time to time.

I hope you are enjoying the weekend. I'll be here to watch the storms on Sunday.

It was good to know that I was not the only one whom was traveling this week. I actually had a blast at a Day out with Thomas in Baldwin City. I tried to plan in regurads to the weather but did not do so well because I woke up to some gusty winds, but the day was still fun. Sometimes we cannot seem to plan like we should,.....lol, huh Ross?

Hope that you had a great time you sure deserve it. We had some crazy weather around Osborne County lastnight. Took a bunch of pictures of the clouds and we all stood outside watching clouds teasing everyone dippin down and goin back up. Hope you have a safe trip home and don't get caught in anything real bad along the way. Take care and glad ya got away for a bit.... Nicole

We spent our two week annual training (Nat'l Guard) at Fort Carson several years ago. It was weird how regular those clouds would come up, every day at 4pm. You could almost set your watch by them! And usually, they came with hail. Not much fun in a canvas tent. Hope you had a good time.

I was quite surprised to receive a phone call from my daughter this morning. She immediately said loudly "Mom, there's tornadoes here". Theresa & her husband are stationed at Fort Drum, NY which is close to Watertown and about an hour north of Syracuse. She has had to listen to me keep telling her how weird the weather has been here lately. Guess the storms finally made it that far northeast. Anyway, Theresa was really excited to be able to feel right at home. Being the FRG counselor for their unit, she put lots of minds at ease about the safety precautions needed for tornado weather. You would have been proud!!!
I have a question for you, Ross. Do any of the meteoroligists ever disagree on a forecast or temperatures, etc? What do you do when you disagree, realizing that weather predicting is just that. You still do the best job ever!!! Keep smiling! PS Where is that page for Millie?
