Pattern change this week

Hope everyone had a nice weekend and for those that received at least some rainfall Sunday, consider yourself lucky because most of the state missed out. I know it wasn't very much. The rainfall totals I saw Sunday from western Kansas were all under .20" and that's not going to make much of a different in the drought.

I'm posting an image from one computer model showing some of the light rain that should redevelop over central and eastern Kansas Monday afternoon and into the evening hours. This is a slow moving system that has been over our area now for about 36 hours. It's such a weak system that it hasn't been able to produce much more than showers, but an isolated thunderstorm may develop with the activity later today. It's not a severe weather setup though.

The next image shows the change that will take place by Wednesday. The storm that is over Kansas today (Monday) will reach the east coast by Wednesday. Our weather will be influenced by a ridge of high pressure (you have low pressure troughs and high pressure ridges) So it looks like warmer weather will spread in from the west and dry weather should be expected the rest of the week. I did paint a cold front on the map for Wednesday out in the Pacific NW because that is the front that will reach Kansas by Thursday, knocking the temperatures down some for the end of the week. If the computer models are correct for next weekend, rain chances will be increasing significantly and we may actually get more than just .10" Some indications point toward a good soaking rain late in the weekend. Look for more information as the week unfolds.

The George Strait concert Friday night was just spectacular. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to go. I know it sold out in 12 minutes, so you know there were several that tried to get tickets but had no luck. There is a good reason why he is the king of country music. What a fantastic night and even more exciting to see him win Entertainer of the Year on the ACM awards Sunday night.
